Superformance Brock Coupe
Story and photos by Tom Cotter

Review by Mike Stenhouse

Tom Cotter, the author of the story, is a gear head's gear head. He lives around the corner here in Davidson, North Carolina. Tom is among other things a Vice President and organizer of the Walter Mitty Sports Car Society in Charlotte.

His multi-bay garage is filled with a number of vintage woody station wagons, a couple of Austin-Healy's, a very rare mid-1960's Austin-Healy Sprite streamlined Le Mans coupe similar to the one driven by Bob Olthoff at Le Mans, and an original 289 Cobra. He drives them all.

He purchased his Cobra in California in 2002 and with Peter Egan drove it back to Davidson. The journey was featured in the February 2002 issue of Road & Track.

I mention this because as the owner of a number of rare and desirable original collectable cars, Tom is not naturally favorably predisposed to replicas.  He has over the years begun to change that opinion as the Olthoffs and a number of Superformance owners, also Vice Presidents, have driven their Superformance Mk III's to the Walter Mitty lunch meetings. Gary Moore's superb Coupe 048 was the clincher.

The very positive article does not begin to reveal Tom's real feelings. After returning from the test drive, he was grinning ear to ear. He talked about it for weeks. And why not. A body more beautifully proportioned than the original. Performance that never quits, thanks to the 550 horsepower Roush 427 Windsor and Tremec T-56 6-speed. Creature comforts for the long haul. Quite a car, not to be confused with your average Cobra kit car.
