The Superformance Brock Coupe strikes again with an excellent article in the July issue of the Robb Report. Coverage starts on the cover with a banner above the Robb Report logo. The 5-page article begins with a 2-page color photo of Peter Brock behind the wheel of Rob Ginn's Coupe 0021. As the article states, "this car... is brilliant".

The article has two contrasting side bars. One is a brief history of the original Daytona Coupes.

The second is a review of the Andrews / Shelby / McCluskey "continuation" coupes. These continuation coupes are planned to be built on either an original 289 Cobra roaster chassis or a near-identical re-creation.

The article raises some interesting points. Peter Brock designed and built the prototype Daytona Coupe with little help or support from the Shelby team. Only then did Shelby embrace it and then only as a passing fancy. It was the Alan Mann organization from England, not the Shelby team, who won the World Manufacturer's Championship with the Daytona Coupes in 1965.

Which brings to mind the second question. Do I want a car I can live with and enjoy every day  - faster, better handling, better riding, more comfortable, more refined, even more beautiful - from the partnership between the father of the Daytona Coupe, Peter Brock, and the best large scale replica builder on the planet, Jim Price, for somewhere around $81,000 available today in dealer's showrooms. Or do I want a car I can look at and perhaps race occasionally - a near-identical replica of a rather crude 1960's race car - all for $350,000 or more with a one year wait.

Hummmmm.....
