SAAC-31 CAR SHOW INFORMATION

THREE CAR SHOWS

This year we’ve revamped the whole concept of the car show. Our goal is to attract as many cars as possible to the national convention. After all, that’s what a convention is supposed to be all about – the opportunity to see more Shelbys and Cobras in one place than anywhere else.

SHOW #1. THE SAAC CONCOURS

The CONCOURS (see Concours Guidelines) is a judged competition open only to SAAC National members who must register in advance. These cars are judged against a standard based on authenticity and workmanship with a total of 900 possible points (600 for authenticity and 300 for workmanship). Cars must pass an operational check which includes the demonstration of an entry’s drivability. A penalty is assessed for the vehicle’s failure to start. There are three separate tiers

DIVISION I is for the stock/original car, equipped as it came from the factory, with original or NOS parts and only factory-available options. In addition to Gold, Silver and Bronze level awards, a Premiere level award is available in this division. Cars achieving this level are retired into an honorary display category for four consecutive years. These cars receive a prominent display location at conventions during that time. Premiere cars are also considered for the Concours Chairman’s discretionary award.

DIVISION II is for non-NOS cars. No penalties are assessed for non-NOS replacement and reproduction parts as long as they match the fit, finish and appearance of original parts. Options available on a that model are acceptable whether or not they were on that particular car when it left the factory.

DIVISION III is for unrestored cars. This Survivors Division is intended to save the remaining original/unrestored cars. We feel this is important because when every car has been restored, no one will know what they originally looked like. Survivors are reviewed only for authenticity, and are judged differently than the other divisions in order to preserve the remaining “originality” of each car.

All concours cars are judged against a standard, and not against each other. This means if all cars in a class attain a prescribed minimum number of points, they would each receive an award. Concours classes are: 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969-70 Shelby, Cobra, Boss, Tiger, Competition and Survivor..

SHOW #2. HI-PERFORMANCE MOTORS

The purpose of this show is to allow Shelbys and Cobras to be displayed as they might have appeared on a Shelby dealer’s lot. They need not be the original color they were painted, as long as they are a color which was correct that year., and they can be modified using parts available from Shelby American’s parts catalogs (Weber induction systems, R-Model parts, Paxton superchargers, etc.). This show is open to all year Shelbys, CSX2000 and CSX3000 Cobras and Boss Mustangs, Cars will be on display in a special area all weekend. Every entrant will receive a participation award and on Saturday at 2 pm a team of judges will present awards in each class based on workmanship and presentation.

SHOW #3. SHINE ‘N SHOW

This show is for all cars that do not fit into the first two categories: modified/customized Shelbys, Mustangs of all years, Panteras, Tigers, Cobra and Shelby replicas, competition cars and Ford hi-performance cars of all kinds. Cars will be on display in a special area all weekend. Every entrant will receive a participation award and on Sunday, at 10:30 am, a team of judges will present awards based on excellence in a particular area, uniqueness and rarity..
