The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are instructional events where Superformance owners can learn to drive their cars quickly, skillfully, and safely in a controlled environment - and have fun doing it.
By popular request, the Spring 2003 event will be return to Virginia International Raceway. There will be three training venues with increasing speed and skill requirements – figure-8, autocross, and on the 1.65 mile VIR South Course. These graduated events and personal in-car instruction will provide you with the opportunity to hone your skills behind the wheel of these powerful cars - even if you are a novice.
If you have been to a Second Strike/Olthoff Racing Track Event, then you know why you want to come back. So we encourage you to send in your registration as soon as possible.
If you have never been before, then we encourage you to be there. Sure, we put down some hot laps on the track, but that is not all there is to it.
Our Superformance cars are high performance cars. It takes skill and practice to drive them. And what better way to do it! We provide figure-8, autocross, and on track in-car instruction.
We have graduated run groups so that the pros run with the pros and the rookies with the rookies. Fast but not intimidating. We even have women’s sessions and passenger sessions. So where do you want to learn how to drive your Superformance - on the highways with the crazies or on the track with your friends?
And speaking of friends, Superformance owners are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet. Hanging out with other owners, friends, and families is almost as much fun as the track time.
This is the largest gathering of Superformance cars anywhere in the world. You will see, hear, and do things you cannot find anywhere else. And not as a spectator, as a participant.
You don’t need a trailer and a towing rig. Many owners drive their cars to the track, run them, and drive them home. If you do develop a problem that you can’t fix at the track, we have always been able to find a way to get folks home.
Second Strike, your Superformance Owner’s Group, puts on these Track Events and the cost of the event has to be covered by registrations. We need your registration as early as possible. Without your support, the event is not possible.
So be there! It is a terrific way to spend a terrific weekend at a terrific track with terrific folks. You don’t want to miss it!
The main changes from the previous VIR events are:
Autocross was a big success this past fall. We will offer autocross both days. Informal awards will be given.
In-car instruction will not require full safety equipment for driver and passenger. The on track instruction will be offered in special reduced speed sessions that will allow you to focus more on the instruction and less on hanging on.
Your roll bar must pass the “broom stick” test. Taller roll bars are available if you need one. If you need a taller roll bar, call the Olthoffs at 704-647-9924 right now and schedule it. See Taller Roll Bar or Tech Inspection for more information. Or check Second Strike Volume 5 Number 2.
The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are put on by Superformance owners for Superformance owners. This event is open to all Superformance owners and to invited guests just as all of our events have been. First priority in registration is to Superformance owners and their cars, of course. Then other Cobra and Cobra replica owners and owners of other Ford powered high performance cars. Priority is given to folks who have been to previous Second Strike/Olthoff events. We expect the event to be full, so early registration is important.
The event is not open to the general public.
The Track - Virginia International Raceway
Virginia International Raceway is one of the premiere road course facilities in the country. It is in high demand and is booked almost year-round. We are very fortunate to have acquired a balmy Spring weekend. We will be on the South Course again. The 1.65 mile South Course has 8 turns, a 2300 feet straight-away, and 80 feet in elevation change.
VIR is located just east of Danville, Virginia. Danville is on US 29 on the North Carolina/Virginia border. VIR is centrally located on the East Coast and is accessible to owners from as far away as New England, Florida, and the Mid West in a single day's drive.
For directions, see the VIR Club web site. Directions are after the hotel accommodations on the same page. Just scroll down.
