The Event in Summary

The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are instructional events where Superformance owners can learn to drive their cars quickly, skillfully, and safely in a controlled environment - and have fun doing it.

The Fall 2002 event will be held in the infield at Lowe's Motor Speedway.  The expansive facility will allow us to stage three concurrent training venues with increasing speed and skill requirements - a skid pad, an autocross course, and the infield track. These graduated events and personal in-car instruction will provide everyone with the opportunity hone their skills behind the wheel of these powerful cars - even novices.

Bob Jordan demonstrates mastery of the skid pad during the Spring 2000 event at Lowe's.

The Wingate Inn is the event hotel. It is located at Exit 49, the intersection of I-85 and Speedway Boulevard, just about a mile from the speedway.  It is a new, well appointed hotel owned and run by car fans and they are excited about us being there, so we should be right at home.  The price is about the same as the Holiday Inn at VIR, but it is a whole lot nicer.

We will have check-in, tech, and our welcoming party on Friday night at the Wingate Inn.

On Saturday night, we will have a post track social gathering for hors d'oeurves and refreshments.  There are a number of nice restaurants near the hotel for dining, including Jillian's restaurant and game room at Concord Mills.

At the track, food service will be available throughout the day Saturday and Sunday.

The enclosed NASCAR garage will be available during the weekend. Folks wishing to park their cars in the NASCAR garage over Saturday night may do so.

For the significant others who would rather light up their credit cards than light up their tires, Concord Mills Outlet Mall is right across the interchange from the Wingate Inn.  It is one of the largest outlet shopping malls in the world.

Key dates: Event registration and hotel reservations are due by September 7, 2002, or the rates go up.  don't be late.

If you have been to one of our events in the past, we know you will be back.  If you have never been and want to know what it is like, see Second Strike On Track -  Fall 2000 at VIR.

Invitational

The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are put on by Superformance owners for Superformance owners. This event is open to all Superformance owners and to invited guests just as all of our events have been.  First priority in registration is to Superformance owners and their cars, of course.  Then other Cobra and Cobra replica owners and owners of other Ford powered high performance cars.  Priority is given to folks who have been to previous Second Strike/Olthoff events.  We expect the event to be full, so early registration is important.

The event is not open to the general public.

The Track - Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte

Lowe's Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway) is well recognized as one of the finest motor sports facilities in the country.

We will be using the spacious infield parking areas for the skid pad and autocross events. The skid pad and autocross events will be in operation both Saturday and Sunday. Individual in car instruction will be available.

The track event will be run on a 0.7 mile section of the infield road racing course.  Speeds are limited by the course layout so the safety requirements are not a stringent as at VIR. Consequently, individual in-car instruction will be available.

The enclosed NASCAR garage will be available to us for the weekend.  Cars may be stored in the NASCAR garage Saturday night.

Food service will be available at the track both Saturday and Sunday.

Lowe's Motor Speedway is located at Exit 49 on Interstate 85 just north of Charlotte, North Carolina.

For directions, see "Schedules and Maps" on the Lowe's Motor Speedway web site or click on Lowe's Maps.

Fees include:

There is a late registration fee of $75 for registration received after 9/7/2002. We don't want your money! We just want you to register early!  Late registrations foul up the works.

Due to the high cost of track rental and insurance, the entry fee is non-refundable.

Fees for those wishing to participate in the poker run and auto show only are to be determined shortly. Keep posted.

In order to provide everyone with plenty of track time and plenty of space on the track, registrations will be limited.  When the spaces are gone, they are gone.  So register early.

Other Attractions

There are so many attractions in the immediate area that some folks may want to bring the family, add a day or two on either side and make it a mini-vacation.

Concord Mills is one of the largest outlet malls in the Southeast. It is diagonally across the interchange from the Wingate Inn.

Jillian's is a restaurant and game complex in Concord Mills. An excellent place to wine, dine, and play.

For the ultimate in game realism, Concord Mills also has the NASCAR Silicone Motor Speedway - a dozen full bodied NASCAR stockers linked together via computer to provide full screen head to head racing with your buddies in the other cars. It is not only great fun, but it is great learning tool.

For motorsports fans (and who isn't) this is the mother country - home of NASCAR, the most popular form of motorsports in the world. There is a lot to see including:

If you are interested in a tour of the NASCAR world on Friday, drop us a line at Mike@SecondStrike.com.

For the whole family, there is Paramount's Carowinds - a major theme park just down the interstate from the speedway.

7/30/02. The dates on the back side of the registration form were incorrect. They have been corrected.

8/1/02. See Other Attractions

8/8/02: If the hotel doesn't recognize "Second Strike", tell them the group code is "COBR".

9/4/02: Updates and additional information. See following

Autocross and Figure 8

We will run two Figure 8 courses with instructors on Saturday morning to give everyone a chance to complete the Figure 8 instruction early in the event. Saturday afternoon, we will convert the entire area to a large and challenging Autocross course - with instruction, of course. The Autocross event will be a timed event and trophies will be awarded for best times. Autocross will continue all day Sunday. Autocross has been described as ?the most fun you can have with your clothes on?. It is also a great way to learn how to drive at the limit. Have fun, learn something ? hard to beat!

This is in addition to the main event of course - hot laps around the infield track.

Spectators

In past events, we have not been able to accommodate spectators for a number of reasons. This time we can. Spectators are welcome at the track, welcome at the social events Friday and Saturday Night, and welcome to participate in the poker run, car show, and Richard Petty Driving Experience. We ask you to chip in $20 per person to help cover event expenses. Contributions will be accepted at registration at the hotel, at the social events, at the registration table at the speedway when you arrive, or anywhere else for that matter. You will need to pay any costs for the Poker Run, Car Show, or Richard Petty Driving Experience if you participate.

Poker Run

If there is sufficient interest, we will have a Poker Run through NASCAR territory on Friday for early arrivals. The run will stop at NASCAR shops and museums throughout the area. If you are interested, contact us to get scheduled. There will be a nominal fee for this event. If you are interested, it is important that you contact us at Mike@SecondStrike.com so that we can get it scheduled.

Richard Petty Driving Experience

The reason that we don?t have the NASCAR banked oval is that the Richard Petty Driving Experience does. But you can still get your laps in on the banked oval ? in a 600 HP NASCAR style stocker!!! For $99 for the ?Ride Experience?, you get three high-speed laps in their car with their professional driver. Times are:

Saturday 9:00 to 11:30 AM and 1:00 to 4:30 PM

Sunday Noon to 1:30 PM and 3:00 to 4:30 PM

Car Show

If there is sufficient interest, we will have a Car Show for the ?shine and show crowd? on Saturday afternoon. And we ask the ?burn rubber? crowd to show some respect!! These are not just fast cars; they are also drop dead gorgeous. If you are interested, contact us to get scheduled. There will be a nominal fee for this event. Trophies will be awarded at the social Saturday night. If you are interested, it is important that you contact us at Mike@SecondStrike.com so that we can get it scheduled.

Event Shirts

Noted automotive artist Dan McCrary had designed the logo for the event shirts, so these shirts will be special. If you are planning on coming as a spectator, we will have some extra shirts. But we always sell out. So if you want to insure getting one, email your order to Mike@SecondStrike.com with count and size ? S M L XL XXL. The shirts are $20 each. Pay when you pick them up.
