The Event in Summary

The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are instructional events where Superformance owners can learn to drive their cars quickly, skillfully, and safely in a controlled environment - and have fun doing it.

The Spring 2004 event will be held in the infield at Lowe's Motor Speedway.  The expansive facility will allow us to stage three training venues with increasing speed and skill requirements - a skid pad, an autocross course, and the infield track. These graduated events and personal in-car instruction will provide everyone with the opportunity hone their skills behind the wheel of these powerful cars - even novices.

The event will be held Friday June 4th and Saturday June 5th.  This schedule will give everyone a full second day on the track with plenty of time Sunday for the drive home. It will also give us Sunday as a rain date in case the spring rains try to do us in.

The Wingate Inn is the event hotel. It is located at Exit 49, the intersection of I-85 and Speedway Boulevard, just about a mile from the speedway.  It is a new, well appointed hotel owned and run by car fans and they are excited about us being there, so we should be right at home.

We will have check-in, tech, and our welcoming party on Thursday night at the Wingate Inn.

On Friday night, we will have a post track social gathering for hors d'oeurves and refreshments.  There are a number of nice restaurants near the hotel for dining, including Jillian's restaurant and game room at Concord Mills.

At the track, food service will be available throughout the day Friday and Saturday.

The enclosed NASCAR garage will be available during the weekend. Folks wishing to park their cars in the NASCAR garage over Friday night may do so.

For the significant others who would rather light up their credit cards than light up their tires, Concord Mills Outlet Mall is right across the interchange from the Wingate Inn.  It is one of the largest outlet shopping malls in the world.

Key dates: Event registration and hotel reservations are due by May 20, 2004, or the rates go up.  Don't be late.

If you have been to one of our events in the past, we know you will be back.  If you have never been and want to know what it is like, see Second Strike On Track -  Fall 2000 at VIR.

Invitational

The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are put on by Superformance owners for Superformance owners. This event is open to all Superformance owners. We limit space to insure a lot of track time for everyone. We expect the event to be full, so early registration is important.

The track event is not open to the general public. Spectators are invited as guests. If you plan to come as a spectator, please send in a registration. Just write "Spectator" on it.

At speed on the infield road race course.

This will not produce a winning Autocross time, but it did produce an ear-to-ear grin.

Parade lap coming around Turn 4 on the banked oval. Did anyone notice it was STEEP? What loonie took this picture?

The Richard Petty Experience is available for those who want the the thrill of a NASCAR ride.

The camaraderie of Superformance owners is a big part of any event.

The Track - Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte

Lowe's Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway) is well recognized as one of the finest motor sports facilities in the country.

We will be using the spacious infield parking areas for the skid pad and autocross events. The skid pad and autocross events will be in operation both Friday and Saturday. Individual in car instruction will be available.

The track event will be run on a 0.7 mile section of the infield road racing course.  Speeds are limited by the course layout so the safety requirements are not a stringent as at VIR. Consequently, individual in-car instruction will be available.

The enclosed NASCAR garage will be available to us for the weekend.  Cars may be stored in the NASCAR garage Friday night.

Food service will be available at the track both Friday and Saturday.

Lowe's Motor Speedway is located at Exit 49 on Interstate 85 just north of Charlotte, North Carolina.

For directions, see "Schedules and Maps" on the Lowe's Motor Speedway web site or click on Lowe's Maps.

Fees

Fees for those participating in the track events are as follows:

Fees include:

There is a late registration fee of $75 for registration received after May 20, 2004. We don't want your money! We just want you to register early!  Late registrations foul up the works.

Due to the high cost of track rental and insurance, the entry fee is non-refundable.

Fees for those wishing to participate in the poker run and auto show only are to be determined shortly. Keep posted.

Registration

In order to provide everyone with plenty of track time and plenty of space on the track, registrations will be limited.  When the spaces are gone, they are gone.  So register early.

Click on Registration Form to download the registration form.  It is two pages.  See Adobe Reader for requirements.

If you are coming for the Poker Run, Karting, spectating or other activities, but don't plan to run on the track, please register for those events as well. There is no charge, but a contribution to offset event expenses would be appreciated.

Poker Run

We are having a Poker Run through NASCAR territory on Thursday for early arrivals. The run will stop at NASCAR shops and museums throughout the area. If you are interested, contact us to get scheduled. There will be a nominal fee for this event for those who are not registered for the track event. If you are interested, it is important that you contact us at Mike@SecondStrike.com so that we can get you scheduled.

The Poker Run will start at 10 AM Thursday at the Wingate Inn and will include the Hendricks, Roush, and Dale Earnhardt race shops, the motorsports museum in Mooresville, and lunch.

Olthoff Racing has really sweetened the pot for the poker run with the following prizes to be awarded to the winners:

Best hand – a $500 gift certificate from Olthoff Racing

Second best hand – a $200 gift certificate from Olthoff Racing

Worst hand – We’ll think of something.

Richard Petty Driving Experience

The reason that we don’t have the NASCAR banked oval is that the Richard Petty Driving Experience does. But you can still get your laps in on the banked oval – in a 600 HP NASCAR style stocker!!! For  $99 for the “Ride-Along Experience”, you get qualifying type laps in their car with their professional driver. Other experiences are available. For complete prices and schedules see Richard Petty Driving Experience.  This is not part of our event, but it is going on at the same time and is available to you.

Victory Lane Karting

For those who don't get enough speed during the day, Victory Lane Karting is open all night.  The expansive indoor courses are both challenging and a lot of fun.

Hotel

The Wingate Inn will be the primary hotel for the event.  They will also be handling the overflow, so call them and they will get you a room.

Rooms are $85.00. Get your reservations ASAP. We have a significant discount, but it goes away May 20, 2004. And as with all block reservations, we have to use 'em or loose 'em.

Parties calling the hotels should notify reservations clerk that they are with the "Second Strike" group.  The group code is COBR.

The Wingate Inn is at Exit 49 off of Interstate 85 just north of Charlotte NC.  It is in a group of hotels diagonally across the intersection from Concord Mills. Their web site has a map.
