Oak Tree (ok tre) n.
A corner at VIR. Ancient, majestic, and tough - like the tree it is named
for. Oak Tree is a tight double apex decreasing radius turn at the
end of a fast straight requiring a
heal and toe downshift into second while turning and braking.
It takes considerable skill earned through practice to extract the
full potential of our cars in this
complex turn and to set up correctly for the run down the Back
Straight. A difficult challenge, but when you finally get it
right, it lights up your soul!
Your car was born for this! Be there! |

The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are designed to be instructional events where Superformance owners can learn to drive their cars quickly, skillfully, and safely in a controlled environment. And we get to use what we learn. A lot.
Drivers are divided into groups based on experience and speed so that you can drive as fast as you feel comfortable. If you want to go flat out, you can. but you don't have to. The number of cars on the track are limited to give you plenty of room to stretch your legs without bunching up behind slower cars. Drivers are released onto the track at intervals. This is not a race. There is no wheel to wheel competition and no timekeeping. Passing is permitted in designated areas.
The event is scheduled to give each driver 140 to 180 minutes of track time over the course of the two day event. This is works out to around 125 to 150 laps or 200 to 250 miles of high speed driving.
In addition to the track events, we will include Figure 8 and Autocross with instructors for newcomers to teach handling at the limit. On track instruction will also be available. Special Ladies Sessions for Figure 8, Autocross, and Track will be provided for those who prefer not to run with the testosterone crowd.
If you have been to one of our events in the past, we know you will be back. If you have never been and want to know what it is like, see Second Strike On Track - Fall 2000 at VIR.
The Second Strike/Olthoff Track Events are put on by Superformance owners for Superformance owners. This event is open to all Superformance owners and to invited guests just as all of our events have been. First priority in registration is to Superformance owners and their cars, of course. Then other Cobra and Cobra replica owners and owners of other Ford powered high performance cars. Priority is given to folks who have been to previous Second Strike/Olthoff events. We expect the event to be full, so early registration is important.
The event is not open to the general public.
The Track - VIR
Virginia International Raceway is one of the premiere road course facilities in the country. It is in high demand and is booked almost year-round. We are very fortunate to have acquired a balmy Spring weekend. We will be on the South Course again. The 1.65 mile South Course has 8 turns, a 2300 feet straight-away, and 80 feet in elevation change.
VIR is located just east of Danville, Virginia. Danville is on US 29 on the North Carolina/Virginia border. VIR is centrally located on the East Coast and is accessible to owners from as far away as New England, Florida, and the Mid West in a single day's drive.
For directions, see the VIR Club web site. Directions are after the hotel accommodations on the same page. Just scroll down.

We will be using the same tech requirements as before with the following additions for all run groups:
1. Five point belts are required for all cars. Five point means two shoulder belts (single or double mount is OK), a lap belt, and an anti-submarine belt. If you have a car with this performance potential, you need these anyway. Now you have a reason.
2. A "latch guard" will also be required for "duck bill" type seat belts. The inexpensive devices can be added to your existing belts. We will have some available at the event for those who forgot. But don’t take chances. Order your own from Bob Olthoff. The price is $12.00 each belt (same as Deist) plus $2.00 shipping and handling. Order by credit card over email or phone or FAX, check by US mail.

3. All open cars must have a structural roll bar, minimum 3-point.
Click on Tech Inspection Form to download the updated tech inspection form. It is one page. See Adobe Reader for requirements.
We will be using the VIR corner workers. This will give everyone more track time since it eliminates shutdown for corner worker change and it eliminates your required 2-hour stint as a corner worker. Nothing comes for nothing, however. The entry fee has been increased to $325 to cover the cost of the corner workers.
Fees include track time on Saturday and Sunday.
The
entry fee is $325 for the first driver and the car.
The second driver for the car is $25 additional.
The third and forth driver for the car are $150 additional each.
There is a late registration fee of $75 for registration received after 4/18/2002. We don't want your money! We just want you to register early! Late registrations foul up the works.
Event shirts have become very popular items. We sell out every time. To make sure that all drivers get one and get one in the correct size, the event shirts are now provided for every driver as part of the entry fee.
Due to the high cost of track rental and insurance, the entry fee is non-refundable.
In order to provide everyone with plenty of track time and plenty of space on the track, registrations will be limited. When the spaces are gone, they are gone. So register early.
Click on Registration Form to download the registration form. It is two pages. See Adobe Reader for requirements.
The registration form and tech inspection form require the Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 4.0 or above. If you don't have it, the Acrobat Reader Version 5.0 can be downloaded for free from Adobe. Go to www.adobe.com or click on
to download. Look for "Get Acrobat Reader free!"

Camping
We have inquired about reserving the camping area at VIR but there was not enough interest to cover the $300 per night fee, so we will not be camping at VIR.
There is a campsite called Hyco Lake that is only 10 minutes away from VIR. It’s in North Carolina off of Rte. 57 heading towards Roxboro. The cost is $15 for motorhomes and $10 for tents (per night). This includes water, electricity, and a garbage dump. They can be reached at 336-599-4343.
